Miami, August 20, 2020 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Education, in partnership with the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe, will host the 2020 Children First Virtual Conference on Saturday, Sept. 12, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Dr. Susan Neimand, Dean of MDC’s School of Education, and Evelio Torres, President and CEO of the Early Learning Coalition, will deliver welcome remarks. Dr. Calvin Moore Jr., an early childhood education leader, will deliver the keynote address.
The annual conference hosts more than 1,000 attendees, including educators, interventionists, policy makers, child welfare agencies and caregivers. Early childhood leaders and practitioners, from Miami-Dade County and surrounding communities, will come together for a day of learning and networking. This year’s conference will once again feature cutting edge speakers, including MDC faculty and students, as well as innovative strategies that build on the existing strengths of the early learning community. Presentations will also provide insights on resilience in the wake of COVID-19, embracing anti-bias classrooms, early literacy, as well as instruction on building early childhood systems that are inclusive, equitable, and meet the diverse needs of young children and families.
MDC’s School of Education and the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe have a long-standing collaboration focused on promoting high-quality early childhood education for all children. This partnership brings together two stalwart organizations to raise awareness on the importance of giving children a strong educational start. MDC’s School of Education has been a national leader in early childhood since the 1980s, including hosting many early childhood conferences over the years. The school is based at the College’s Padrón Campus, home to a variety of academic and career training programs that prepare educators to be the next generation of teachers, leaders, and change agents in the community through a focus on high quality student-centered experiences and research-based instructional practices.
