Miami, May 21, 2019- Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Justice, Public Safety and Law Studies’ Professor Danixia Cuevas will represent MDC’s Law Center as she lectures at the National University of Advanced Legal Studies this summer in Kochi, India. Cuevas, alongside Professor Pamela Katz of Russel Sage College, is lecturing on the use of paralegals to increase access to justice.
Cuevas, an attorney and scholar, was selected by the President of the United States to represent the country as a member of the Department of State Exchange Program. The U.S. Fulbright Scholar Program offers nearly 470 teaching, research or combination teaching/research awards in more than 125 countries. Opportunities are available for college and university faculty and administrators as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars and many others. In addition to several program models designed to meet the changing needs of U.S. academics and professionals, Fulbright offers opportunities for flexible, multi-country grants.
Professor Cuevas will also lecture at the National Law University in Delhi, India. The lecture will focus on technology and the law; international comparative analysis of ethics; collaborative teaching pedagogy; and client interviewing skills. Additionally, she is scheduled to lecture on paralegal education and the use of community paralegals globally including in America, Asia, Africa and Latin America as a means to increase access to justice.
The renowned School of Justice located at MDC’s North Campus has been training and educating public safety professionals for more than 40 years, domestically and internationally. More than 80 percent of all public safety professionals in Miami-Dade County have been trained at the School of Justice. The school offers associates degrees, baccalaureate degrees, college credit certificates, certifications in basic law enforcement, corrections and firefighter, and private security, and specialized executive leadership training and assessment services.
