Miami, Nov. 1, 2018 – Miami Dade College (MDC), School of Justice, Public Safety and Law Studies, in partnership with The Florida Public Service Association, will host its third annual South Regional Leadership Conference, Saturday, Nov. 3, at 8 a.m.
During the event, criminal justice students from programs across South Florida will be converging on MDC’s North Campus to compete in hands-on activities such as traffic stops, felony traffic stops, obstacle course, CPR, forensic investigations, defensive tactics, and other criminal justice-related events.
MDC’s renowned School of Justice, Public Safety and Law Studies has been training and educating public safety professionals for nearly 42 years, domestically and internationally. More than 80 percent of all public safety professionals in Miami-Dade County have been trained at the School of Justice. The school offers a bachelor’s in Applied Science degree in public safety management with seven specialized tracks, associate degrees in criminal justice, and college credit certificates in homeland security and crime scene technology, certifications in basic law enforcement, corrections and firefighter, and private security, and specialized executive leadership training and assessment services.
Founded in 1990, the Florida Public Service Association, Inc. (FPSA) is a public service driven career technical student organization (CTSO) recognized by the Florida Department of Education (FDOE). As a CTSO, FPSA provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) education and careers in the criminal justice, law studies, firefighting, public administration and teaching assisting through career development events. As an association, FPSA provides students with academic, general employability, problem-solving, technical and occupation-specific skills to meet the demands for a career in public service.
