Miami Dade College’s Miami Culinary Institute to Host 4th Week of Italian Cuisine in the World Masterclass

Miami, Nov. 18, 2019 – Miami Dade College (MDC), in collaboration with the Consul General of Italy in Miami and the Italy America Chamber of Commerce South East, present the 4th Edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, featuring dishes by Michelin Star Chef Luigi Nastri and Miami-born Chef Giorgio Rapicavoli. The masterclass will take place from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at MDC’s Miami Culinary Institute. The class will include food tastings.

A native of Italy’s Amalfi coast, Chef Nastri serves contemporary dishes inspired by Italian and international cuisine at Sensi in Charlotte, North Carolina. Prior to that, he founded Eit restaurant in Rome, Italy. After starting as Commis de Cuisine with Pellegrini Catering, Chef Luigi was part of a team of chefs that served lunch to her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the Termini Station inauguration. In Shanghai, he furthered his career as a consultant for Griffith Laboratories Ltd., creating a line of proprietary products for a chain of Italian restaurants in Southeast Asia. In addition to travels across France and South America, Nastri taught his techniques to master chefs at the Professional Institute of Italian Chefs Academy in Fukuoka, Japan.

By age 29, Chef Rapicavoli had already led at a handful of restaurants in Miami, rubbed elbows with world-famous chefs, became the city’s first winner of Food Network’s Chopped and revolutionized the local restaurant scene with the always-packed pop up Eating House, which eventually became a permanent fixture in Coral Gables. Glass & Vine in Coconut Grove, his second restaurant, focuses on locally-sourced fresh ingredients inspired by the natural surroundings. His latest culinary adventure is a spot in the popular Time Out Market in South Beach, where fans can enjoy favorites, including his famous Cap’n Crunch Pancakes and Pasta Carbonara. Chef Rapicavoli was featured in Forbe’s 30 Under 30.
