Miami, Dec. 19, 2017 – MDC-TV, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) acclaimed television network, has won its second consecutive Suncoast Regional Emmy® Award, presented by The National Academy of Television Arts & Science (NATAS). In addition, a group of MDC School of Entertainment & Design Technology (SEDT) students won a prestigious 2017 Suncoast Student Production Award.
MDC-TV’s Emmy®-winning team included director Ariel Rubalcava, conductor Alberto Bade, videographer/post production supervisor Maikel Garcia, videographer Daniel Rodriguez, technical director Raul F. Hernandez Frederick, concert director Julio Licona, broadcast engineer Amed Torrecilla, and videographer/broadcast engineer Richard De La Vega. They won for their coverage of the Video Game Concert in the Special Event Coverage (other than News or Sports) Edited category.
Under the guidance of Prof. Tommy Demos, SEDT first-year film students Daniel Betancourt, Joanne Casimir, Michelle Perez, Luis Muñoz, Matthew Sosa, and Acey Ace won a Suncoast Student Production Award in Editing their project Never Too Late silent film, outperforming some of the most prominent film production colleges and universities across the nation. They also received an Honorable Mention under the Audio/Sound and the Director categories. The Suncoast Chapter of NATAS is a professional service organization that organizes the annual competition, which includes 23 programming and craft categories honoring student productions from across the country.
