Miami Dade College’s Learning Resources Wins State Exemplary Practice Award

Miami, July 8, 2019 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Learning Resources Department received the 2019 Exemplary Practice for Learning Service Support Award, presented by the Association of Florida Colleges Learning Resources Commission.

The award recognizes Learning Resources’ “Making Connections” collaboration with the English department at MDC’s Kendall Campus. This is an interdepartmental connection to help first year students acquire knowledge of vital resources they will need early on to be successful in college, including tailored workshops, library tours, and library instruction.

Learning Resources enhances student learning and success by providing library services, tutoring in a variety of disciplines and skills, and services to meet the needs of the diverse student body on each campus, in addition to facilities with state-of-the-art technology and spaces that facilitate collaborative and individual study sessions.

MDC students have access to collections of library materials in physical and electronic format to support each discipline’s curriculum, as well as for personal interest.  The libraries offer online access to over 150 online databases housing millions of articles, e-books, and streaming videos useful for all career paths.  Furthermore, students and faculty receive assistance and instruction from dedicated and expert librarians, tutors, and technologists in the use of resources.

The annual award is sponsored by the Association of Florida Colleges and recognizes outstanding programs and professionals in the learning resources field and showcases its best programs. This year, Learning Resources team members at the Kendall Campus – Nora Morales, Leslie Alfonso, and Charles Meehan – received this distinction. MDC’s Learning Resources will receive a $500 award and plaque at an upcoming award ceremony.
