Miami Dade College’s Jazz at Wolfson Presents Wolfson Jazz Ensembles Nov. 8

Miami, Oct. 24, 2016Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Arts and Philosophy Department will continue its successful jazz series, Jazz at Wolfson Presents, at 5:40 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, featuring Wolfson Jazz Ensembles, directed by Dr. Michael Di Liddo. All Jazz at Wolfson Presents concerts are free and open to the public.

Three groups from the jazz ensembles at the Wolfson Campus will be featured: the Horace Silver group takes its name from the legendary pianist and composer of the 1950s and ’60s; the Blue Note group pays tribute to the famed jazz record label of numerous classic and groundbreaking recordings. All of these groups help young jazz musicians develop by presenting a wide range of jazz styles.

“These groups are comprised of exceptionally talented young musicians.” said Dr. Michael Di Liddo.  “Their diverse cultural backgrounds bring an added flavor to jazz repertoire. I am excited for them as they are enthusiastic about their new performance skills and sharing their development within the jazz style.”

The program’s most mature group, the Hard Bop Jazz Ensemble, has included some of South Florida’s finest emerging musicians. The ensemble has performed at major jazz festivals in Switzerland, Italy and the Netherlands. The group is highly decorated, receiving DownBeat magazine awards. Two former players, pianist Kemeul Roig and saxophonist Hery Paz have gone on to perform with Arturo Sandoval and David Liebman respectively.

MDC’s Jazz at Wolfson Presents features live performances that run monthly from September through April.
