Miami, Jan. 30, 2020 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Arts and Philosophy Department continues its successful jazz series, Jazz at Wolfson Presents, with Guitarist Lindsey Blair, who will perform at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 19, at MDC’s Wolfson Campus, in downtown Miami. The event is free and open to the public.
Blair, who was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, has a deep connection to the South Florida music scene. After graduating high school, he attended the University of Miami where he studied jazz guitar. Fine-tuning his newly acquired skills and teachings in nightly performances, Blair started to build his ample and eclectic portfolio playing for acts such as The Jaco Pastorious Big Band, Ed Calle, 2 Live Crew, Arturo Sandoval and Lee Ann Womac, among others.
In recent years, he was the official guitarist for Univision’s variety show Don Francisco Presenta; also, for many years he collaborated with Miami music icons Gloria and Emilio Estefan, performing with them and the Miami Sound Machine. In 2011, the Miami New Times named him “Best Jazz Musician.”
Blair’s prolific musical career started at the age of 10, when he first picked up the guitar, deeply inspired by Indianapolis jazz legend Wes Montgomery, whom he discovered on a televised performance. A year later, he was already a paid musician. His first band, Blues Underground, formed when he was 13 years-old, was featured on local Indianapolis news programs.
Students who have studied under Blair have gone on to play as professionals with such artists as Madonna, Gloria Estefan, Jeff Beck, Aretha Franklin, The Bee Gees, Barry White, Shakira, Patty Labelle and many others. Blair continues to reside in South Florida.
