Miami, June 17, 2019 – The Idea Center at Miami Dade College (MDC) will host students from across South Florida colleges and universities for the Code and Response Codeathon on Friday and Saturday, June 28 – 29, at MDC’s Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami. The event is being held in collaboration with IBM and the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) University. Admission is free with RSVP.
The Code and Response Codeathon aims to engage students to develop tech solutions that address disaster response and recovery efforts around the world. This unique opportunity to brainstorm and prototype innovative ideas and turn them into action is open to students from all disciplines and academic backgrounds, whether they have STEM majors and love to program software or are taking interdisciplinary courses that focus on social change, entrepreneurship, or global affairs. Participants must be 18 years or older to attend. No prior coding experience is necessary. The 24-hour codeathon will include meals and giveaways, including IBM tech resources.
The winning team will receive a $1,000; 2nd and 3rd place winners will also receive cash prices. One student from the winning team will have the opportunity to participate in the next CGI University meeting in 2020.

The Idea Center @MDC is the college’s hub of innovation, the place where students from all disciplines can gather, collaborate and take advantage of resources and training to develop their entrepreneurial ideas.
