Miami Dade College’s Idea Center and Eig-Watson School of Aviation Team Up to Launch DronesUp

Miami, March 11, 2016 – Take your career to new heights with DronesUp, live flight sessions and lectures to master the art of safe drone technology, presented by Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Idea Center and Eig-Watson School of Aviation. The first session takes off April 2!

The official DronesUp launch event will take place at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, March 17, at MDC’s Idea Center, featuring guest speaker Daniel Rodriguez, CEO, Animusoft, LLC, an industry panel and flight demonstration.

DroneUp will offer eight-week courses that combine in class instruction with live flight-training sessions. Students who complete the course will earn an Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) course completion certificate, having mastered proper flight control and hardware maintenance for safe and legal flight within U.S. airspace. Students will also come away with an understanding of how drones are changing diverse industries, including agriculture, real estate, health care, and more. Drones will be provided for flight sessions.

School of Aviation instructors will provide the drone training, while the Idea Center, MDC’s hub for innovation, breaks down the business aspect. This combination of theory and hands-on learning will prepare students for careers as commercial drone pilots.

“The internet changed everything in the 1990s, about 15 years later, mobile devices changed the world. Drones are one of those technologies that will have a similar impact and we are at the forefront of that movement,” said Leandro Finol, the Idea Center’s executive director.

The public can also learn more about the DronesUp program at an open house Saturday, March 19, at Tamiami Airport, where several drone pilots will demonstrate their skills and information about the course will be available.
