Miami, April 16, 2018 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC Director of Student Centered Services, Adam Porro, has been named a 2018 ACT College and Career Readiness Champion for the State of Florida. The award recognizes individuals across the country who are making a positive impact on their communities through efforts to advance college and career readiness.
Porro is part of MDC’s Student Achievement Initiative team, a completion-by-design project that focuses on strategic, college-wide efforts to improve student outcomes such as progression, retention and completion of key achievement benchmarks. For the past several years, he has served as the Director of Student Centered Services, where he successfully bridges and coordinates efforts with multiple departments, providing support to deliver an integrated student experience to incoming students. He predominantly works with first-time-in-college, direct-entry students, approximately 10,000 students annually. MDC enrolls more minority students than any college or university in the United States, accounting for more than 85% of credit student enrollment.
ACT Champions are high school seniors, K-12, postsecondary, and workforce professionals, who support ACT’s mission of education and workplace success. They are nominated by ACT State Councils comprised of education and workforce professionals from all 50 states that serve as the selection committee and choose one champion per category for each state.
