Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Miami Film Festival continues its popular Cuban Cinema Series with the documentary film 8-A (1993) by legendary director Orlando Jiménez Leal. The screening will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29, at MDC´s Koubek Center in Little Havana. Following the film, there will be a Q & A with Leal, moderated by Alejandro Ríos, Cuban Cinema Series founder, film critic and journalist.
The film will take audiences back to the summer of 1989 in Cuba, to the Kafkaesque trial of General Arnaldo Ochoa on international drug trafficking charges, an event that was broadcasted on national television. Leal obtained footage of the trial and produced the documentary, which includes dramatized chapters of previous events.

The Cuban Cinema Series will resume after the 41st Miami Film Festival, set for April 5-14, 2024. The upcoming festival will include numerous new Cuban films also programmed by Ríos.
