Miami Dade College’s Confucius Institute is the Presenting Sponsor of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s China Business 2010: Expanding Opportunities for Miami Companies Meeting October 7

Miami, October 1, 2010Miami Dade College’s (MDC) prestigious Confucius Institute, which opened with lots of fanfare and attention this spring, is the presenting sponsor of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s China Business 2010: Expanding Opportunities for Miami Companies meeting onThursday, October 7, 2010, at the Four Seasons Hotel Miami. China’s ambassador to the United States, the Honorable Zhang Yesui, will attend. This special event features business executives with on-the-ground experience in China who will highlight business and investment opportunities in China for U.S. companies. Beyond providing an overview of the business climate in China, the program is intended to provide hands-on information on a variety of business topics.

The Confucius Institute, a non-profit learning hub in partnership with China’s Ministry of Education and the Chinese Language Council International (Hanban), will offer Chinese Mandarin instruction; business seminars; culinary, history and calligraphy courses; traditional medicine workshops; art exhibitions and much more. Other classes and activities will be incorporated over time and based on demand.

MDC’s Confucius Institute joins 70 others in the U.S. and 282 around the world committed to building bridges of understanding through furthering knowledge of the Mandarin language and the Chinese culture. The Institutes are sponsored by Hanban, a non-governmental affiliate of the Chinese Ministry of Education.

This upcoming event with the support of MDC’s Confucius Institute further enhances the college’s existing partnerships with Chinese government agencies, learning institutions and organizations. In recent years, the college has trained Chinese air traffic controllers, hospitality and human resources executives, and hosted Chinese Fulbright Scholars. The Institute and these endeavors are all initiatives of MDC’s Office of International Education, which also oversees International Partnership and Study Abroad programs at the college.
