Miami Dade College’s Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Education Center to Launch New Food and Beverage Certificate Program

MIAMI, April 8, 2019 – Registration is open for the new Food and Beverage Specialist College Credit Certificate program at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Education Center.

Classes will be offered on Saturday, starting Aug. 2019 and they include introductory courses in Hospitality, Safety and Sanitation, Food and Beverage Cost Controls as well as internships.  Courses will be held in an accelerated, eight-week format. Students will learn the theoretical and practical foundation of food and beverage matters while enhancing their readiness to successfully compete for jobs in the industry.

“Food and Beverage Certificate students will benefit from industry professionals’ classroom presentations about their career experiences providing real-world glimpses into workplace operations and expectations,” said Dr. Malou C. Harrison, President of MDC North and Interamerican Campuses.  “In addition to the opportunity to compete for successful careers, the certificate credits earned can be applied to an Associate in Science degree in Hospitality Management, which is transferable to MDC’s Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Supervision and Management with a Concentration in Hospitality at MDC.”

The certificate enables students to build foundational knowledge, skills, and insights as a gateway to a variety of entry-level and career advancement opportunities in the hospitality industry depending upon their professional interests and goals. Food and beverage career areas include restaurant and room service and banquet set-up, which are components of the growing hospitality and tourism industry in Miami-Dade County.
