Miami Dade College Welcomes New Leadership at Medical Campus

MIAMI, Oct. 2, 2018 – The Miami Dade College (MDC) administration has announced veteran academic leaders, Dr. Bryan Stewart as new Medical Campus President and Dr. Tommie Norris as Dean of the Benjamin Leon School of Nursing.

Dr. Stewart is an accomplished College leader.  Prior to joining MDC, he served as Vice President of the Trinity River Campus at Tarrant County College (TCC) where he implemented numerous programs in Nursing and Allied Health.

Before being named Vice President of Trinity River Campus, Dr. Stewart served in various capacities at Tarrant County College (TCC) including Dean of Math, Science and Technology, Department Chair for Math and Physics, President of the Faculty, to name a few.  He started his career as a Math Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas where he taught and worked on his master’s degree.  Dr. Stewart holds a Ph.D. and a Master of Science from the University of North Texas, and a Bachelor in Science from Tarleton State University.

Prior to joining MDC, Dr. Norris served in various leadership capacities at the University of Tennessee Health Service Center (UTHSC) College of Nursing including Professor, Associate Dean for Evaluation and Effectiveness, Director of the BSN and Clinical Nurse Leader programs, and Department Chair to name a few.   She has served in various leadership roles on the American Associated of Colleges of Nursing Organizational Leadership Network, the Tennessee Nurses Foundation, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, Beta Theta Chapter-At-Large.

Dr. Norris received a Doctor of Nursing Science from Louisiana State University Health Science Center with a focus in clinical research and nursing education, a Master of Nursing Science in Community Health and Family Nursing from the University of Tennessee, a Bachelor of Nursing Science from the University of Memphis, and an Associate in Science in Nursing from Union University.
