Grant will be used for creation of two satellite hubs, new curriculum, student support and faculty training
Miami, Nov. 1, 2021 – Miami Dade College (MDC) will receive a nearly $3 million U.S. Dept of Education Title V Developing Hispanic Serving Institutions funding award. The five-year grant will be used for the expansion of the MDC’s Business Innovation and Technology (BIT) Center. It will include the creation of two satellite hubs, new curriculum, student support and faculty training.
“Developing a deeper technical knowledge and skills in our business students will help them to accelerate their careers,” said Chechu Lasheras, director of the BIT Center. “This grant will empower and increase the awareness of innovation and technology in the School of Global Business and will help develop the right talent for the new workforce.”
MDC’s state-of-the-art BIT Center explores the role of technology in digital transformation, process automation, and analytics in the ever-changing business landscape. The BIT Center is an initiative of MDC’s Miguel B. Fernandez Family School of Global Business, Trade & Transportation and offers various programs and courses in three core areas – marketing and digital marketing; banking and finance; and industry certifications.
The expansion of the BIT Center will provide the skills and resources students need to succeed in the new, digital, data-driven world where rapid technological changes are disrupting the way business is done on an exponential scale. It will create two satellite hubs, and hardware and software needed for practical, hands-on training in digital marketing, financial technologies, business analytics and other disciplines. The expansion will create new and redesigned courses and credentials that infuse business technologies, analytics, and digital transformation content. Faculty and staff will receive training on the new curriculum and technologies. There will also be an increase in the development of student support services.
