Miami Dade College to Participate in eMerge Americas April 18 &19

Miami, April 4, 2024 – Miami Dade College (MDC) will once again participate in eMerge Americas, South Florida’s preeminent annual tech conference and expo now celebrating 10 years. As in past years, MDC will have a dedicated space showcasing the College’s top tech programs, student projects, simulators and more. In addition, College leadership will be present in panels and fireside chats led by industry experts, including MDC President Madeline Pumariega; Antonio Delgado, Vice President of Innovation and Tech Partnerships at MDC; and Alejandro D. González, Executive Director of MDC’s The Idea Center.

eMerge will take place on Thursday and Friday, April 18 & 19, at the Miami Beach Convention Center, 1901 Convention Center Dr.

Visit MDC’s Booth 910 to experience an array of dynamic and engaging activities including: FinTech Activation, where event visitors can learn more about the fascinating world of trading through hands-on experiences with Bloomberg Terminal and TradeStation; see how technology is transforming the field of Health and Wellness while sampling an anatomage table and have the opportunity to use tools provided by some of MDC’s technology partners such as Apple Vision Pros with NTT Data to understand wealth management and Amazon Web Services to feel the thrill of racing in a simulator while understanding about Machine Learning. Dr. Ogunleye has created a name for herself as the premier celebrity dentist of LeBron James, Lil Wayne, Dwayne Wade, to name a few. She is an immigrant from Egypt who became the youngest graduate of Howard University’s College of Dentistry and a leading health entrepreneur in South Florida. She also uses her influence to impact the lives of hundreds of children who don’t have access to dental care and uplift women through empowerment initiatives. Focusing on industry-specific training and upskilling strategies will help expand new pathways for workers and provide an in-depth focus on AI skills while elevating uniquely human-centric skills. The presentation will cover how Intel® Digital Readiness Programs like AI for Workforce, AI for Citizens and Digital Trust for All are implemented through Miami Dade College to enhance human capabilities and address challenges in business and education. MDC President Madeline Pumariega will moderate a discussion with Reshma Saujani, author of “Brave, Not Perfect,” Founder of Girls Who Code and Founder & CEO of Moms First, who will deliver a keynote speech. Saujani will share her insights on the power of embracing bravery over perfectionism, especially for women navigating the challenges of the modern world. This session will delve into the importance of fostering a culture of courage, resilience and risk-taking in both personal and professional spheres.

Rising Stars powered by Millennium: Perspectives from Miami’s Top Graduates

In this panel discussion led by Steve Johnson, Head of the Learning Engineering + Data (LEaD) Program at Millennium, a diverse group of college students will share thoughts on their career ambitions, the Miami business landscape, as well as what they are looking for in future employers. This panel of graduates have been selected based on their academic achievements as recipients of the 2024 eMerge Americas’ Rising Stars award and represent various colleges and universities such as Miami Dade College, Florida International University, University of Miami, Nova Southeastern University and Florida Atlantic University.
