Miami Dade College to Illuminate Freedom Tower in Colors of the Spanish Flag

Miami, Aug. 18. 2017 – Miami Dade College (MDC) to illuminate its National Landmark the Freedom Tower red and yellow in solidarity with Spain following the deadly attacks in Barcelona.  The iconic Freedom Tower will be illuminated at sunset Friday, Aug. 18.

Words can’t begin to describe the sorrow the entire Miami Dade College community is feeling following the senseless and atrocious acts of terror in Barcelona. The attacks strike really close to home and to our hearts,” said MDC’s President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón.  “MDC stands in solidarity with Spain.”

Spain is one of MDC’s oldest friends.   The College has served Spanish students since its founding, and MDC students have benefited from exchange programs with Spain. Just recently, MDC entered an agreement with FC Barcelona to launch FutbolNet, a program aimed at empowering youth through leadership and sportsmanship training. MDC continues to celebrate Spain’s culture, people, and history.
