Miami Dade College to Host Third Annual Black Male Initiative Leadership Success Summit

Miami, March 13, 2018 – Miami Dade College (MDC) will host the third annual Black Male Initiative (Black MI) Leadership Success Summit with keynote speakers Matthew Pigatt, Commissioner from the City of Opa Locka, and Desmond Meade, MDC alumnus and President and CEO of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition on Saturday, March 24, at 9 a.m.

The Black MI 2018 Leadership Success Summit is a day of engagement, empowerment, and networking for black male MDC students and graduating seniors from Miami-Dade County Public Schools.  This year’s theme is Being Black in America: Empowering Silent Voices, Letting Your Life and Work to Speak for You.  Breakout sessions include topics on Education/Academic Success, Mental Health, Political and Social Justice in America, Leading through Service, and Financial Literacy.

The mission of Black MI is to foster academic achievement, personal and professional development, as well as provide holistic support for current and future black male students who wish to obtain an education and degree at MDC. Black MI’s goals are to foster community, champion academic success, promote development through mentoring, and inspire and cultivate committed leadership.
