Miami Dade College School of Justice to Host NBA Vice President and Head of Intelligence Yolanda Urbanski

Miami, Sept. 21, 2020Miami Dade College (MDC) School of Justice will host Yolanda Urbanski, the Vice President and Head of Intelligence at the National Basketball Association (NBA), a virtual and free event open to students and the general public on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m.  She will discuss her current role and duties in the NBA, how intelligence-related capabilities and degrees are needed in the private sector, and how students can achieve their career goals.

Urbanski previously served as Director of Global Response and Intelligence for NBC and Vice President of Regional Crisis Manager for the Americas at Goldman Sachs. She also worked in the intelligence community for the United States government from 2000- 2014.

MDC’s School of Justice, Public Safety & Law Studies has been training and educating public safety professionals for more than 40 years, domestically and internationally. More than 80 percent of all public safety professionals in Miami-Dade County have been trained at the School of Justice. The school offers associates degrees, baccalaureate degrees, college credit certificates, certifications in basic law enforcement, corrections and firefighter, and private security, and specialized executive leadership training and assessment services.

In 2017, the School of Justice was designated an Intelligence Community Center of Academic Excellence (IC-CAE). As an IC-CAE member, MDC offers courses such as Introduction to Homeland Security; Constitutional Law; Intelligence Analysis; Critical Thinking and more. Professionals from U.S. intelligence agencies conduct skills training workshops where students enhance their critical thinking, presentation, and writing skills. Faculty and students also attend professional conferences to collaborate with fellow academicians and practitioners to share best practices in intelligence. Students prepare papers, posters, or presentations to contribute to the body of work in the intelligence field and receive valuable feedback from seasoned intelligence professionals.
