Miami, Dec. 13, 2017 – Miami Dade College (MDC) has been awarded a Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) Grant for $1.3 million from the U.S. Department of Education to help veterans prepare for and transition to college. MDC is the only recipient of the grant south of Pensacola.
The five-year grant will assist approximately 125 service members per year with GI Bill benefits processing, advisement, financial aid, tutoring, remedial education, and overall transition to civilian life. MDC received its first VUB grant in 2003.
Prospective students must already have a high school diploma or GED and be military veterans who served in active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces for more than 180 days and received other than a dishonorable discharge, among other qualifications. The VUB program requires that at least two-thirds of the participants meet income requirements and be first-generation college students. VUB assistance is available at all eight MDC campuses.
