MDC has been recognized every year since the program’s inception and once again makes the Honor Roll
Miami, July 18, 2016 – For the eighth consecutive year, Miami Dade College (MDC) has been named among the nation’s Great Colleges to Work For by The Chronicle of Higher Education, a major higher education publication. MDC again made the honor roll for being recognized in multiple categories.
“We are humbled and honored to once again receive this recognition. It truly speaks to the faculty and staff at MDC, who are second to none, who truly make this a great place to work and also to learn for our students,” said MDC President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón.
MDC was recognized in nine categories: collaborative governance; confidence in senior leadership; diversity; facilities, workspace and security; job satisfaction; professional/career development programs; respect and appreciation; supervisor/department chair relationship; and work/life balance.
“The Chronicle’s Great Colleges to Work For program is well known as a mark of a college or university that puts thought and effort into serving the needs of its faculty and staff,” said Liz McMillen, editor of the Chronicle. “The colleges and universities that make the list are highly rated by their employees for creating great working environments, an important achievement that helps them recruit top academic and administrative talent.”
The Chronicle’s 2016 Great College’s to Work For program recognizes colleges for specific practices and policies. It has become one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country, serving as higher education’s version of the popular Fortune magazine survey.
The program recognizes select groups of colleges for specific best practices and policies, such as tenure clarity, collaborative governance, work/life balance, teaching environment, security, compensation and benefits, and others.
A major part of the process consisted of a survey completed by a random sample of faculty members, administrators, and professional support staff at each institution. In fact, the primary factor in deciding whether an institution was selected was the employee feedback. The program also is designed to help colleges improve as workplaces through the individual reports they receive.
To administer the survey and analyze the results, The Chronicle turned to ModernThink LLC, a strategic human capital consulting firm that has conducted numerous “Best Places to Work” programs, surveying hundreds of thousands of employees nationwide.
Other major institutions honored alongside MDC include the University of Notre Dame, Texas A & M University-Central Texas and the University of Michigan. The complete list of honorees has been published here at The Chronicle’s website.
