Miami, November 20, 2015 – Miami Dade College (MDC) congratulates Dr. Eduardo Calle for winning Best Instrumental Album, Dr. Ed Calle Presents Mamblue, during the 16th Annual Latin Grammy Awards.
Dr. Calle is a renowned musician, composer, orchestrator, scholar, professor, and leader. Throughout his legendary career, Dr. Calle has become one of the most recorded saxophonists in history appearing on more than 1,200 albums, almost 9,000 singles, and countless television and movie soundtracks with artists ranging from Frank Sinatra, Celia Cruz, Juan Luis Guerra, Arturo Sandoval, Carlos Santana, Gloria Estefan, Elton John, the Bee Gees, Willy Chirino, Julio Iglesias, Shakira, just to name a few.
Eduardo Joaquín Calle was born in Caracas, Venezuela. His family immigrated to America in 1968. He grew up in Miami and first learned English and studied music in Miami-Dade County public schools. Public education was the catalyst for a prolific recording career that began at age 15.
Besides being an internationally-acclaimed jazz performer, composer, and arranger, Dr. Calle is in great demand as a jazz clinician and enjoys working with students. He has served as MDC’s North Campus Chairperson of Arts & Philosophy, and is currently a tenured full professor of music business and production at MDC.
Dr. Ed Calle Presents Mamblue, a stunning tribute to the city of Miami and its cultural history, is an Afro-Cuban jazz orchestral spectacular featuring more than 115 of the most influential jazz and studio musicians in the history of the South. MDC students, faculty, and staff contributed to album.
