Miami Dade College North Campus to Host 2016 FBI Youth Academy

Miami, June 8, 2016 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus, FBI Miami Citizens Academy Alumni Association (FBI Miami CAAA), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI-Miami Division) have partnered to once again host the 2016 FBI Youth Academy June 13-18 at MDC’s North Campus.

“This camp exposes current high school students, who are our future law enforcement officials, to key elements of the FBI while developing their skills using a holistic approach that does not just focus on the academic areas, but on all aspects of being a responsible citizen,” explained Dr. Malou C. Harrison, North Campus’ president.

The FBI Youth Academy is a unique education experience for students from all walks of life.  Select students will participate in a weeklong summer education program that highlights the inner-workings of the FBI organization as a career, while building positive relationships, decision-making and goal setting skills, and college and career planning.

“Our youth are the most important resource and FBI Miami CAAA, MDC North Campus, and the FBI are committed to encouraging students from all walks of life to set goals for successful achievement in post-secondary studies and professional careers,” said Rita Scott, FBI Miami CAAA President, and FBI Youth Academy Director.

Students will receive free scholarships, courtesy of FBI Miami CAAA. The scholarship covers tuition, uniforms, classroom supplies, lunch, and field trips.  To qualify, high school students must be entering as juniors or seniors for the 2016-2017 academic year.  Selection criteria include a GPA of 2.5 or higher and a 750-word essay on why the student should be selected to attend the FBI Youth Academy program.   Additional requirements include teacher/counselor recommendation and a copy of the third marking period report card.  For more information and to download scholarship application packet, go to www.fbicaaamiami.org
