Miami Dade College Jazz at Wolfson Presents Wolfson Jazz Ensembles

Miami, Mar. 2, 2016Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Arts and Philosophy Department will continue its successful jazz series, Jazz at Wolfson Presents, at 5:40 p.m., Tuesday, Mar. 15, featuring Wolfson Jazz Ensembles, directed by Dr. Michael Di Liddo. The event is free and open to the public.

“I am excited and especially proud of all the groups that are performing this month,” said Dr. Di Liddo. “They have meticulously explored their repertoire and are excited about sharing what they have learned and developed this term. The talent that has come to Wolfson is truly extraordinary and I invite you to hear what the next generation of jazz musicians are doing.”

The Horace Silver, Blue Note, and Hard Bop Jazz ensembles, three of the small groups from the Wolfson Campus jazz program, will present a varied program of jazz music. The Horace Silver group takes its name from the legendary pianist and composer of the 1950s and ’60s. The Blue Note group pays tribute to the famed jazz record label of numerous classic and groundbreaking recordings. All of these groups help young jazz musicians develop by presenting a wide range of jazz styles.

The program’s most mature group, the Hard Bop Jazz Ensemble, has included some of South Florida’s finest emerging musicians. Past groups have performed at major jazz festivals in Switzerland, Italy, and the Netherlands as well as being nationally recognized by receiving DownBeat magazine awards.

MDC’s Jazz at Wolfson Presents features free live performances monthly from September through April.
