Miami, Oct. 25, 2016 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Arts and Philosophy Department continues its successful jazz series, Jazz at Wolfson Presents, with Bassist David Friesen, at noon, Wednesday, Nov. 9, at MDC’s Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami. David Friesen has been listed as one of the 20 most influential bass players in the history of jazz and one of the 100 greatest jazz bassists of all time. He has been described by the Village Voice as “a phenomenon, a player whose musicianship, tone, time, and imagination are uncategorizable.”
Friesen was inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame at the inaugural induction ceremony in Sept. 2007, and the Jazz Society of Oregon Hall of Fame in May 2012. He has written two musical scores for animated shorts, both of which have been Academy Award nominees. His original composition “Playground” placed second in the 2014 International Songwriting Competition with over 18,000 applicants.
Friesen is faculty member of the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshops that take place each year in Louisville, Kentucky. He has taught and conducted jazz clinics at more than 200 universities and music conservatories worldwide.
