Miami Dade College Gets Ready to Welcome Thousands of Eager Students Aug. 27

MIAMI, Aug. 13, 2018 –  As Miami Dade College (MDC) gets ready to welcome thousands of students for the 2018 fall term on Monday, Aug. 27, the start of the new academic year, trailblazing programs await that will equip them with the knowledge and skills to succeed in the new innovation economy.

MDC’s eight campuses and major outreach center offer more than 300 academic pathways leading to bachelor’s degrees, associate in arts and science degrees and numerous career training certificates, as well as a growing Virtual College.  Each semester MDC expands its academic and cultural enrichment offerings. The new Digital Marketing Management Certificate is designed to prepare students to build and execute a digital marketing plan. Graduates will understand how to connect with consumers using multiple digital platforms to create effective targeted promotional campaigns.

The rapid growth of technology has changed how organizations are reaching to consumers.  With relationships in the digital marketing industry and campus locations throughout Miami-Dade County, the new certificate program will be able to draw from businesses and agencies throughout the County and    will successfully train students to meet future workforce needs.

The MDC School of Engineering and Technology (EnTec) will offer a new Associate in Science degree in IoT Applications, a growing technology bound to change the way we do nearly everything. The Internet of Things, or IoT for short, refers to physical devices embedded with software and sensors connected to the internet, collecting and sharing data, such as smart homes devices, smart watches, and connected cars. These days, IoT’s are being used across many industries, from healthcare to agriculture.

MDC made history this summer with the launch of its new MDC WORKS: Apprenticeship Program, the first of its kind at an academic institution in Florida.  MDC’s groundbreaking learn-and-earn apprenticeship model is a center focused on career and technical education, facilitating internships, apprenticeships and professional development. MDC will establish an apprenticeship hub in South Florida serving individuals seeking a pathway to education and high-paying jobs, while accelerating industry growth in various key areas, including aviation, technology, banking, trade, and logistics, among others.

MDC will unveil its new, state-of-the-art Cybersecurity Center of the Americas, Wednesday, Aug. 22. The center is unlike any other in the area, with the most advanced technology will pave the way for a new generation of cybersecurity experts. Featuring a state-of-the-art Cyber Range, the first of its kind in the region, the hyper-realistic training platform will provide hands-on cybersecurity training to create the advanced security experts needed to fill the ever-increasing number of open cybersecurity positions.

To satisfy the needs of our growing student body, MDC extended information center hours and offer on-site registration on Saturdays from 8 a.m. – noon, until Sept. 8.  Students will be able to meet with advisors, register for classes, explore financial aid options, and pay tuition.
