Miami Dade College Celebrates National Tutoring Week Oct. 7 – 11

Miami, Sept. 17, 2019- The Learning Resources Department at Miami Dade College (MDC) will host a series of events college-wide in appreciation of the Tutors at each campus during National Tutoring Week, Oct. 7-11.

MDC’s Tutors are generous academic professionals who help our students become successful independent learners. National Tutoring Week was launched over a decade ago by the National Tutoring Association (NLA).  It is an annual celebration to recognize Tutors for all their hard work with students at colleges, universities, and private tutoring centers across the country each October.

The work tutors do with students at the College positively impacts success, retention, and completion.  In a recent study conducted at a public university in Pennsylvania, researchers found “the literature on undergraduates’ persistence, retention, and graduation rates indicates that tutoring (peer, professional, and supplemental) plays a crucial role in undergraduates’ sense of social and academic integration.”  They further stated, “The results of this study demonstrate that tutoring significantly improves students’ academic performance and retention.”1

Join MDC’s Learning Resources Department as we highlight Tutor contributions all week long with the following college-wide events:
