Miami, Sept. 23, 2019 – From art exhibitions to lectures and live performances, Miami Dade College (MDC) will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by hosting dynamic events through the end of October at all eight campuses. Unless otherwise noted, all events are free and open the public.
With countless Hispanics serving as civic leaders, educators, entrepreneurs and public servants, there has never been a better time to reflect on the many contributions of Hispanics. Appropriately, the 2019 theme for Hispanic Heritage Month is “Hispanic Americans: A History of Serving Our Nation.”
MDC will highlight Cuban author Estela Carpe; Miami-based award-winning filmmaker Gabriel Rhenals; trailblazing journalists Manolo Reyes, Ana Azcuy, Jose Grinan, Diana Gonzalez and Eliott Rodriguez; artist Hernan Miranda; and Yusnier Viera, a Cuban-born mathematician and MDC professor known as “The Human Calendar,” among others.
Activities will include a screening of John Leguizamo’s “Latin History for Morons,” a performance by Ballet Folklorico Azteca, creative writing contest, talent show, and more!
