Miami Dade College Announces New 2018 Summer Camps!

Miami, May 7, 2018 – From creating animation to learning CSI techniques, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) unique summer camps are unmatched in variety, quality and fun! Open to kids, tweens and teens, the camps will be available at MDC campuses. They have been a longtime favorite for thousands of campers for decades.

Some of this year’s highlights include Culinary at the Wolfson, West and Kendall Campuses, and CSI, at the North Campus. Students can also participate in Teen Entrepreneurship, Young Architects, Technology, Kids & Teens College, as well as the popular Wild Things Happen camp, traditional summer camp where children participate in field trips, sports, reading, games, and more.

Create Your Own Computer (Ages 12-16) – $250

Students will learn to rethink about what computers are while assessing new generation of electronic devices. Students will build a Creative Computing using Kano.

Internet of Things: Create Your Own Security Device (Ages 12-16) – $250

Students will develop ideas to create and maintain electronic security devices. The students will invent a Security Device using Little Bits Kit.

It’s Fun to be Healthy (Ages 7-12) – $498

This two-week long summer program introduces kids to the world of healthy lifestyle choices through a variety of fun activities and culinary lessons. Children will explore different areas of health education using music and movement, yoga, relaxation exercises, and creative culinary experiences. Kids will learn it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey to wellness!

A-TEAM: Academy of Teen Entrepreneurship and Management (Ages 12-17) – $249

This week-long summer program introduces teens to the world of entrepreneurship. Whether you want to launch a company, start a non-profit or just be prepared for life after high school, this is the program for you. This is more than just a fun summer program. It is a unique addition to your resume, whether you are applying to college, an internship or a job. You will learn an array of skills including business planning, presenting, team work, project management and professional networking. Our program presents business concepts in a fun and accessible way.

LEGO® EV3 Robotics: Engineering and Design (Ages 7-12) $110

Design, build, program and control your robot! Working in small teams, kids will construct robots using LEGO® Mindstorms NXT Robotics kit. Create an explorer robot to maneuver around obstacles, a robot arm which picks up objects, a snake robot which rattles and strikes, and a robot batter that hits pitches.

Health Care Explorers (Ages 12-17) $159

Students will learn patient care skills, body mechanics and medical terminology. They will learn how to take vital signs and perform basic first aid.

Kids & Teens College Summer Program (Ages 7-17) $110 – $210

Kids and Teen College provides an educational yet fun environment where kids, teens, and parents can customize their schedule and choose classes they like the most. Kids can choose from a wide variety of weekly programs and activities such as Culinary, Lego Robotics, Computers and Technology, Science and Nature, Modeling, Public Speaking, Art, Reading, Photography and so much more!

Wild Things Happen Summer Camp (Ages 5-11) – $157

Children will enjoy activities such as computers, field trips, indoor and outdoor games, swimming and arts & crafts. Lunch and snack included.

CSI (Ages 13-17) – $250

Campers will learn how to evaluate a crime scene and how to collect, package, and process evidence and projectile motion, while working with faculty from the School of Justice. Students will gain knowledge about the legal system, including a courtroom experience.

STEM Camp: Robotics, Coding, and Drones (Ages 14-18) – Free

Mystery and Art camp (Ages 6-12) or (Ages 13-17) – $170

In this suspenseful Mystery Camp, campers will challenge their deductive skills in a race to discover who kidnapped our beloved mascot, FINN. Players will have to work in teams to decipher riddles, clues, and interrogate suspects to solve the case! Summer Camp’s riddles and clues will focus on STEM subjects.

Cultivating Foodie (Ages 6-12) or (13-17) – $200

This camp teaches the basics of cooking, avoiding cross contamination, kitchen safety and much more. In conjunction with the MDC’s Culinary Institute, the program will focus on healthy recipes as well as promote healthy eating habits.

Character Animation with Maya (Ages 14-19) – $395

Using Autodesk Maya, you’ll learn how to bring characters to life, using lighting, settings and camera angles. We’ll teach you a workflow that will take pre-rigged models and animate them in a short sequence that tells a story.

Culinary Camp (Ages 14-19) – $395

Learn to cook fun and nutritious dishes, meals, and desserts.
