Miami Dade College Announces Accelerated Program to Earn College Credit Certificates

Miami, July 5, 2017 – Miami Dade College (MDC) is launching Competency Based Education (CBE) programs, tabbed MDC Accelerate, starting in the fall semester. The personalized learning initiative gives students the opportunity to complete an entire certificate program at their own time and pace.

MDC was selected by the U.S. Department of Education to participate in the pilot program under the Experimental Sites Initiative to provide CBE programming. MDC Accelerate competency-based education programs were developed using input from industry leaders. The initial four programs offered will include Banking Operations/Banking Specialist, Building Construction Specialist, Food and Beverage Specialist, and Rooms Division Specialist.

Rather than registering for individual courses each term, students register for an entire program at once, which consists of online modules created from various courses that are broken down into their key competencies. This allows students to go at their own pace and spend more time on the content they need, not on content they already know. Once they master all the program modules and successfully complete online performance assessments, students receive a College Credit Certificate.
