As part of National Poetry Month, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Miami Book Fair presents The Making of “Surya: The Eternal Rhythm,” a vibrant visualization of Afro-Caribbean poetry through Indian dance by internationally-acclaimed dancer Ranjana Warier and award-winning poet Adrian Castro Saturday, April 2, at MDC’s Wolfson Campus. This event is made possible with support from the Knight Foundation. Admission is free with RSVP.
What happens when a classical Indian dancer moves to the rhythms of Afro-Caribbean poetry? A seamless, kaleidoscopic performance is born. Awarded a 2015 Knight Arts Challenge grant, the performance portrays how two seemingly disparate cultures have so much in common at heart: to express ourselves and tell our stories in any and every possible way. Together, Warier and Castro will put poetry into motion to create a new understanding of both cultures in South Florida.
