MDC’s Wolfson Opera/Musical Theatre Ensemble to Perform James Lapine’s “Into the Woods” April 12 and 13

Miami, April 3, 2019 Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Wolfson Opera/Musical Theatre Ensemble will perform its rendition of James Lapine’s “Into the Woods,” Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13. The performance is directed by MDC faculty Amy Davis and Alan Ngim and choreographed by MDC alumna Samantha Pazos.

In “Into the Woods,” stage director, playwright, screenwriter, and librettist James Lapine and composer Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching. The story follows a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow, would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn they cannot have a child because of a witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

The production will be performed by students from the Wolfson Opera/Musical Theatre Ensemble, an intensive program for those interested in pursuing a career in musical, operatic, and theatrical performances. The program expands the student’s level of stage experience providing the necessary skills to become a successful leader in today’s music industry.

Tickets are $15 for general admission; $8 for MDC students, faculty and staff with ID.  https://mdcintothewoods.eventbrite.com.
