MDC’S School of Education Announces Official Launch of Teaching Academy at Coral Gables Senior High

Miami, Oct. 23, 2017Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Education (SOE) will launch a teaching academy in partnership with Coral Gables Senior High School (CGSHS) at 8 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24.

Nineteen high school students are enrolled in the CGSHS Teaching Academy, which is MDC SOE’s second teaching academy.  In October 2016, it launched its first teaching academy at Miami Springs Senior High School.

Teaching academies partner with MDC SOE to provide educational experiences as well as pedagogical knowledge to students interested in the teaching profession.  MDC SOE’s Florida Future Educators of America (FFEA), Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), and Kappa Delta Pi students interact with the students in the teaching academies at MDC’s InterAmerican Campus and the high school sites.

Additionally, the Early Childhood Education Academy at CGSHS has a relationship with MDC SOE, including annual academic engagement experiences at the Exploration Station, the SOE’s preschool lab located at the North Campus.

This year, both teaching academies will participate in InterAmerican Campus’ Education Changemakers along with other high schools where students will envision the school of the future.
