MDC’s North Campus to Host its Annual Academic Convocation with Keynote Speaker and Alumna Lori Montenegro

Miami, March 28, 2017Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus will host its 42th Annual Academic Convocation, Wednesday, April 5, at noon.  The ceremony highlights the academic achievements of students who have excelled in their chosen fields.

MDC students participating at the event are highly recommended by their professors as outstanding students in their classes. They are recognized for their talents, persistence, dedication, discipline, and service excellence at the North Campus.  This year’s keynote speaker is Telemundo Correspondent and MDC Hall of Fame Alumna Lori Montenegro.

A longtime and distinguished journalist, Lori Montenegro began her career Radio and Channel 51 in Miami.  A Washington correspondent for over 25 years, Montenegro began as a foreign affairs reporter for the United States Information Agency.  She has covered the White House, Capitol Hill, the State Department, the Pentagon, the Justice Department, and other governmental institutions.  Montenegro has garnered numerous awards including the Latina Leader Award from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, and the coveted Ruben Salazar Award for Communications from the National Council of La Raza.  She has helped pave the way for other Afro-Latinos to enter Hispanic media.
