Miami, Nov. 21, 2019- Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus and MDC’s School of Education, in partnership with the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe, will host the fifth annual Children First Conference on Saturday Dec. 7, starting at 8 a.m. This year’s theme is “Equity in Action”, and will include a diverse group of presenters, sharing research-based best practices for the early learning environment.

Early childhood leaders and practitioners, from Miami-Dade County and surrounding communities, will come together for a day of learning and networking.  Presentations will feature trainings on workforce investments; continuous quality improvement; as well as instruction on building early childhood systems that are inclusive, equitable, and meet the diverse needs of young children and families.

Dr. Malou Harrison, President of MDC’s North and Padrón Campuses, will open the conference and welcome participants.  Alberto Carvalho, Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, will deliver the keynote address.

The Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe and Miami Dade College School of Education have a long-standing collaboration focused on promoting high-quality early childhood education for all children.  This partnership brings together two stalwart organizations to raise awareness of the importance of giving a strong educational start to children.  The MDC School of Education has been a national leader in early childhood since the 1980s, including hosting many early childhood conferences over the years.  The campus is home to a variety of academic and career training programs that prepare educators to be the next generation of teachers, leaders, and change agents in the community; through a focus on high quality student-centered experiences and research-based instructional practices.
