MDC’s North Campus Rings in the Holidays with Annual Children’s Celebration Dec. 8

Miami, Nov. 27, 2018 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus will once again become a winter wonderland for its annual Children’s Holiday at North, which kicks off with Santa’s arrival on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 10 a.m.  The event is free and open to the public.

Families can enjoy a spectacular parade featuring Santa and Mrs. Claus, Santa’s little helpers, several Disney characters and exciting marching bands from Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS). Children will also be able to take a photo with Santa.

Following the parade, the United States Postal Service (USPS) will hold its official stamp dedication ceremony at 10:45 a.m., Bldg. 4000, Atrium. This year, the Postal Service™ will unveil a new 2018 forever Global Poinsettia stamp.  Additional forever stamps presented this year include Madonna and Child by Bachiacca, Kwanzaa, and Hanukkah.

Children’s Holiday at North will also bring back fun activities such as the 12-foot mountain of snow where children will experience South Florida style sledding.  Several live performances on two stages will include a Polynesian dance group, a hip-hop dance team as well as renditions of Disney’s Descendants, Mary Poppins and more.

In addition, there will be numerous educational and cultural interactive learning activities such as the Youth in Agriculture Pavilion which features wild animals, a Human Rights Stand, the MDCPS Magnet Schools Zone, a petting zoo, a STEM Interactive LEGO spot, a Holidays-Around-the-World Center showcasing global holiday customs, to name a few.

Children’s Holiday at North’s Candy Land food court will offer a numerous selection of food trucks and vendors at a reasonable cost.

Families are encouraged to bring one new toy for needy children in the community.
