MDC’s Miami Culinary Institute Partners with Consul General of Italy to Host 5th Week of Italian Cuisine in the World Masterclass

Miami, Nov. 18, 2020 – Miami Dade College (MDC), in collaboration with the Consul General of Italy in Miami and the Italy America Chamber of Commerce South East, present the 5th Edition of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, featuring a masterclass for Miami Culinary Institute students led by Michelin Star Chef Cristina Bowerman. Participating students will receive a basket of ingredients to prepare a five-tomato risotto. The virtual class will take place 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 19, with students at home interacting with Bowerman, who will be cooking in Italy. The event is open to working media only.

Bowerman is a multi-talented Italian chef who aims to inspire a new generation of female chefs and lead a fresh, modern era of Italian cooking. Her creative plates are rooted in Italian tradition with international flair. The variety of ethnicities she experienced in U.S. cities, as well as their flavorful cuisines, inspired her to pursue a culinary career. After completing a course at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Texas, she secured work in a series of restaurants, finding several key mentors who have continued to shape her cooking today. In 2010, she was awarded a Michelin Star, making her the only female chef to receive one that year.
