MDC’s Miami Book Fair to Host an Evening with Juan Felipe Herrera

Miami, Feb. 23, 2018 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) acclaimed Miami Book Fair (MBF) presents An Evening with Juan Felipe Herrera, the first Mexican-American Poet Laureate of the United States, on Thursday, March 15 at 7 p.m., at the Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami.    The event is free and open to the public.

Herrera, author of the book Jabberwalking, is sharing secrets of how to turn wonder at the world into weird, wild, incandescent poetry.  He will teach everything he knows about being a real-life, bonified, Jabberwalking poet.  Jabberwalkers write and speak for themselves and others no matter where their feet may take them — to Jabberwalk is to be a poet on the move.

Herrera is a poet, performance artist, and activist. The son of migrant farmworkers, he was the U.S. Poet Laureate from 2015-2017, and the first Mexican-American to hold the position. He has published more than a dozen collections of poetry, in addition to short stories, young adult novels, and children’s literature.
