MDC’s Miami Book Fair Announces Three Special Events in Doral

Miami, Oct. 25, 2021 – As part of Miami Dade College’s 38th Miami Book Fair (MBF), which returns to downtown Miami Nov. 14 – 21 with in-person and virtual programming, three exciting events, sponsored by the Downtown Doral Arts and Culture Foundation, will take place in the City of Doral Nov. 6, Nov. 10 and Nov. 16. All three events are free and open to the public.

On Saturday, Nov. 6, from 2 – 5 p.m. Miami Book Fair, Downtown and Fundacion Cuatrogatos present a Storybook Picnic full of activities that encourage reading, learning, and imagination at the Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School, 8390 NW 53rd St. Doral. The Storybook Picnic will be held in both English and Spanish.

Enjoy picnic baskets full of books (free to keep) and a special musical performance by four-time Latin Grammy Award-winner and children’s book author Rita Rosa Ruesga with acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Pepo Herrera. Theater troupes will include Venezuelan actor and director Leonardo Van Schermbeek with his master puppetry production, and The Blue Circus, an engaging pantomime performance by Colombian artists Catalina Arenas and Orlando Arias. Cuban storytellers, actors, and theater directors Nitsy Grau & Leopoldo Morales will share stories based in oral tradition to narratives by classic Iberoamerican authors, such as José Martí. Also enjoy creative writing, art-making, and other family-friendly activities.

From 7 – 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, Venezuelan authors Camilo Pino and Luis Alejandro Ordóñez will lead a conversation in Spanish with moderator Eli Bravo, including a Q&A and book signing at the Downtown Doral Charter Upper School, 7905 NW 53rd St., Doral.

And on Tuesday, Nov. 16, from 7 – 8:30 p.m., watch prolific novelist Praticia Engel, author of Infinite Country: A Novel, in conversation with moderator Anjanette Delgado, whose recently published anthology is titled Home in Florida: Latinx Writers and the Literature of Uprootedness. There will be a Q&A and book signing at The Doral Yard, 8455 NW 53rd St., Doral.
