MDC’s Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex Presents a Talk with Chris Bailey of Warner Bros Animation

Miami, March 7, 2018 Miami Dade College’s (MDC) acclaimed Miami Animation and Gaming International Complex (MAGIC) presents Director/Producer for Warner Bros Animation Chris Bailey as part of its Art of Tech Lecture Series at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21. This event is sponsored by Sprint.

Bailey’s career began as an animator at Walt Disney Feature Animation and grew into directing features, television series, shorts and theme park ride films. With 30 years of experience in traditional feature animation, CG character animation and live action, Bailey’s feature animation credits include Disney’s, Oliver & Company, The Little Mermaid, Rescuers Down Under and The Lion King. He was nominated for an Academy Award for directing the Disney short Runaway Brain starring Mickey Mouse.

His CG Animation supervision credits include X-Men II, Eragon, Hocus Pocus, Disney’s Mighty Joe Young, Garfield I & II, Alvin and the Chipmunks I & II and Hop. For TV, Bailey was the Supervising Director for Kevin Smith’s animated CLERKS, as well as the Director/Producer of Disney’s Emmy Award winning, Kim Possible. His theme park credits include directing Disney’s, It’s Tough to be a Bug (based on the feature file A Bug’s Life). He also directed Universal Studios’ theme park attraction, Minion Mayhem, winning two awards—ASIFA’S Annie Award as well as the celebrated Visual Effects Society Award for Best Special Venue Project. Other projects include directing animation for the award-winning rock video Opposites Attract with Paula Abdul. Bailey has also assisted with visual and story development for Disney TV, 21st Century Fox and Warner Bros. Bailey’s personal short film and comic book character Major Damage has won several film festival awards and an Eisner.

MAGIC’s The Art of Tech series empowers, elevates and inspires innovation within the growing digital technologies industry. The speaker series brings together a wide spectrum of executive level professionals in the areas of Computer Animation, Gaming, Visual Effects, Motion Graphics, Virtual and Augmented Reality.

Located at MDC’s Wolfson Campus, MAGIC offers an Associate in Science degree in Animation & Game Art or Game Development & Design, and Immersive Technologies Certificate program on virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). Students in the intensive, hands-on two-year program develop skills in modeling, lighting, motion, sound, and storytelling, as well as gain command of the technical skills required in today’s highly competitive animation industry.
