MDC’s Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex Presents a Talk with Animation Industry Veteran, Ron Myrick

Miami, March 18, 2019 — Miami Dade College’s (MDC) acclaimed Miami Animation and Gaming International Complex (MAGIC) will host animation industry veteran and current Supervising Timing Director of the Guess Who Scooby Doo TV series, Ron Myrick, as part of its Art of Tech Lecture Series on Wednesday, April 3, at 11 a.m. This event is sponsored by The Aspen Institute.

With 46 years of experience in the field of animation there is not much Ron Myric has not seen in the past four decades. He started his career at California’s Filmation Studio at a time when programs were produced in the traditional method of drawing with pencil on paper and the color applied to transparent cells, which was filmed under a camera for broadcast. There, he had the opportunity to work on popular shows such as The Archie’s, Star Trek, Fat Albert, and Tarzan, to name a few.

For the next few years the entire animation industry became Myric’s classroom as he worked as an assistant animator not only on a myriad of TV series, but also cereal commercials for Sugar Frosted Flakes, Keebler Cookies, and Coco Puffs. Within five years Myrick advanced from assistant animator to animator, continuing to work on TV shows and expanding into feature films with productions that include Heavy Metal, Watership Down, The Mouse and His Child, as well as Flash Gordon.

In the 1980s he left Filmation and started as a freelance animator at Hanna-Barbera working on renowned shows such as The Smurfs, The Flintstones, Happy Days, Pac-Man and many more.

Myric moved up to the position of Timing Director and eventually Supervising Director on shows like The Addams Family, Sonic the Hedgehog, Siegfried & Roy and The Incredible Hulk. He also directed the first 10 episodes of the CGI series Skylander’s Academy which airs on Netflix. He went on to direct 104 episodes of a Flash series for China entitled Valt the Wonder Deer. Currently, Myrick continues to work for Warner Bro’s Animation and he is also the Principal Creative Director at Dream East Pictures.

MDC MAGIC’s Art of Tech Series empowers, elevates and inspires innovation within the growing digital technologies industry. The speaker series brings together a wide spectrum of executive level professionals in the areas of Computer Animation, Gaming, Visual Effects, Motion Graphics, Virtual and Augmented Reality.
