Miami, Sept. 19, 2017- Miami Dade College’s (MDC) acclaimed Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex (MAGIC) and MIA Animation will unleash a digital takeover of the InterContinental Miami on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m., that will showcase a 19-story digital spectacle of artwork made of 300,000 LEDs and 90,000 individually controllable pixels.
The extravagant digital display is a precursor to the MIA Animation Conference and Festival, that will take place Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 14, a growing and active hub for game design and animation networking in South Florida, returning for its seventh year at the MDC’s Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami.
“The digital takeover will create an animated dialogue with the city,” said Mauricio Ferrazza, chairperson at MAGIC. “The LED wall will interact with Miami while the monitors in the hotel lobby will tell stories created by MAGIC students.”
Notable producers, directors, animators, and game developers are among the lineup of speakers during the MIA Animation Festival and Conference, including: Kat Good, Director of Disney’s “Big Hero 6”; Oscar nominee Matt Shumway, Animation Supervisor in “The Revenant” movie; Chris Bailey, Director of Warner Bros Animation; and Leah Hoyer, VP Creative of Tell Tale Games, to name a few.
Prices begin at $65, and discounts are available to students with proof of school ID. Free admission for MDC students and faculty is available; and full conference tickets are $195. Admission for the Breakfast Arts & and Technology is $40. Attendees can watch the submitted short films at the MIA Animation Festival on Oct. 14 for $10.
