Miami, July 6, 2018 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) InterAmerican Campus will host “The Opioid Crisis in Florida-Update,” a seminar by Florida Department of Health’s Injury Epidemiologist, Alyssa Falise, and Epidemiologist, Danielle Fernandez, at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 10. This event is free and open to the public.
Falise and Fernandez will present the latest findings and efforts to help reduce and control opioid use in Florida, especially Miami-Dade County. Furthermore, they will inform students and staff on how to look for signs of abuse of ethical pain medication in the community, the antidotes available, and ways of seeking help when encountering a patient with overdose symptoms.
MDC’s Organic Chemistry students will provide posters developed last term and share their research on the leading abused painkillers and the antidote used to prevent deaths from overdosing.
