Miami, Dec. 29, 2016- In January, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Hospitality Institute (HI) will partner with Miami International Hospitality Center and MDC’s School of Justice to launch the HOPE Project, a pilot program to provide training and job opportunities to high school students in underserved inner city areas in Miami’s thriving hospitality industry.
Created in 2008, HI offers a variety of no-cost programs which train and certify participants in specific hospitality and culinary positions with the added components of customer service, job readiness, life skills training, and job placement assistance.
The HOPE Project will provide 20 students, ages 15-17, with job readiness and life skills training, a culinary demonstration, a tour of MDC’s School of Justice, customer service and hospitality hands-on training, and a tour of the Hilton Cabana Hotel.
Students will also receive mentorship through the Miami International Hospitality Center and MDC’s School of Justice to connect participants to educational pathways at MDC. Students will also be connected to internships and paid work experience opportunities through CareerSource South Florida and Employ Miami-Dade.
