MDC’s Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Center to Host Free Food Distribution Event Nov. 7

MIAMI, Oct. 30, 2019 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Education Center (MEEC) will host a free food distribution event to assist needy students and families throughout Liberty City and surrounding areas starting at 9 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 7.  The event is co-presented by Farm Share.

Farm Share offers Liberty City’s residents a greater access to free food sources that promote healthy eating.  Volunteers, including MDC students, faculty and staff will participate to help sort and distribute free food packages that includes fresh fruits, vegetables, meat and other nutritious food items.

“Liberty City is a one of several food deserts that are prevalent in many pockets of Miami-Dade County and where low-income families have little access to affordable food sites and grocery stores that carry nutritious food. Farm Share attempts to address this important need in our community and we are elated to have them providing food distribution at Carrie P. Meek Center,” said Dr. Malou Harrison, President of MDC’s North and Padrón Campuses.

Farm Share is a non-profit organization that distributes food to individuals and families facing hardships, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, churches, and other organizations feeding the needy in Florida – free of charge. The organization’s mission is to alleviate hunger and malnutrition by recovering and distributing fresh and nutritious food to those who need it most.

Food will be available on a first come, first-served basis, and while supplies last.
