Miami, March 10, 2022 — Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Vice Provost for Workforce and Professional Learning, Dr. Loretta Ovueraye, has been selected as one of South Florida’s Most Powerful and Influential Black Business Leaders of 2022 by Legacy South Florida, a business and news publication that highlights the success and achievement of members of the Black community in the region.
“Over the course of my tenure as a college administrator, I have strived to promote the use of program resources to build communities and a learner centered environment; I work to ensure that through my efforts students will develop and grow to be successful and productive citizens,” Dr. Ovueraye said. “I am honored and humbled to be recognized alongside this stellar group of South Florida rock stars for my life’s work thus far.”
Dr. Ovueraye has a long history with MDC, joining the College in 1999 as Environmental Science Program coordinator and adjunct professor. She also served as dean of faculty at MDC Padrón Campus; department chair for Biology, Health, Wellness, and Funeral Service Education at MDC. Her long and successful career in higher education led to her current role as vice provost for Workforce Programs and Professional Learning. In 2015, she took a brief hiatus from MDC to join Baton Rouge Community College’s (BRCC), where she served as Interim vice chancellor for Academic Affairs and dean of the STEM division. Throughout her career, she has distinguished herself as a student success change agent for academic and technical education programs. Dr. Ovueraye holds a doctoral degree in education from Northeastern University, a master’s degree in environmental science from Imperial College in London, and a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from Edo State University, Nigeria.
