MDC Partners with International Bar Association and the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute for American Democracy to Host Rule of Law Town Hall May 25

Miami, May 19, 2022 Miami Dade College (MDC), in collaboration with the International Bar Association (IBA) and the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute for American Democracy, will host a Rule of Law Town Hall, a bipartisan discussion among experts on how political polarization, misinformation, and a loss of civility are threatening the rule of law and democratic society. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Wednesday, May 25, from 6-7:30 p.m. at MDC Wolfson Campus. It will also be live-streamed at https://www.mdc.edu/livestream/  

Town Hall speakers include the Honorable Raoul Cantero, Florida Supreme Court’s first Hispanic Justice and a partner at the international law firm of White & Case; Hilarie Bass, former president of the American Bar Association; chair of the ABA Rule of Law Initiative and president & founder of the Bass Institute for Diversity & Inclusion; Neil Brown, president of the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, and former editor and vice president of the Tampa Bay Times; and Homer Moyer, former chair of the IBA Rule of Law Forum, founder & chair of the CEELI Institute (Prague), and senior counsel at the law firm of Miller & Chevalier will moderate the session. The panel discussion will be followed by a Q & A session and a closing reception, also open to the public.

The town hall is sponsored by the International Bar Association, the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute for American Democracy, with the support of the University of Miami School of Law, the Miami Dade Bar Association, the League of Women Voters and MDC’s Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy (iCED).  Funding is provided by the IBA Foundation, a U.S.-based non-profit organization (501(c)(3).
