Miami, Sept. 12, 2023 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus, in collaboration with The Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative (WBHI), will once again host the Annual Pink Walk on Sunday, Sept. 24, starting with registration at 6 a.m. at the campus’ Science Complex Building. NBC 6 Anchor Constance Jones returns to emcee the event.
The Pink Walk is a charitable event organized by WBHI with the mission to transform and save lives while providing at-risk women, college students and low-income populations with the resources necessary to beat the odds of breast cancer and heart disease. The Walk is also the culminating event of MDC’s inaugural Changemaker Week 2023 (CMW), a week-long celebration and activation of the College’s commitment to changemaking and changemaker education with more than 90 events and activities across its eight campuses to raise awareness, initiate calls to action and offer professional development and support to the college community while embracing and making the most of its changemaker identity.
“We are proud to host and co-sponsor this event for the third consecutive year as it is important to us to continue spreading knowledge and advocacy about breast cancer and heart disease within our college and our community. It is reflective of our commitment as a changemaker institution, and embodies our MDC changemaker attributes of empathy, reflection, resilience and action,” said North Campus President Fermin Vazquez.
Pink Walk registration is $35. Participants receive a t-shirt and finisher medal. The first 100 MDC students to register pay only $25 with promo code MDCSTUDENT2023. Register at https://runsignup.com/Race/FL/Miami/ThePinkWalk
Supporters of WBHI’s 7th Annual Pink Walk are also encouraged to play an active role by setting up a personal fundraising page. Special swag will be awarded to those who raise $50, $100, and more, helping WBHI get to its $100,000 goal.
Founded by cancer survivor Andrea Ivory in 2005, The Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative (WBHI), a leader in disease prevention & early detection is dedicated to transforming and saving lives while providing at-risk women, community members, and college students with the prevention and early detection necessary to beat the odds of breast cancer and heart disease. The organization firmly believes that early detection and living disease deterrent lifestyles are critical in the prevention and reducing the risks of breast cancer and heart disease, leading causes of death in women. Throughout the year, WBHI provides those living in South Florida with early detection resources, health education, care coordination, and patient navigation.
