MDC North Campus to Host 6th Annual Pink Walk Sept. 25

Miami, Sept. 9, 2022 – Miami Dade College (MDC) North Campus will once again partner with The Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative (WBHI) to host the 6th Annual Pink Walk on Sunday, Sept. 25, starting at 6 a.m. at the North Campus Science Complex building. NBC 6 Anchor Constance Jones will also return to emcee the event.

More than 500 participants are expected to attend this charitable event organized by WBHI to raise awareness, provide a platform for disease reduction strategies and offer resources to help support prevention and early detection among college students, at-risk women and other targeted communities.

“We are proud to once again host and co-sponsor this important event in association with The Women’s Breast and Heart Initiative to spread knowledge and advocacy of Breast Cancer within our College and our community,” said Fermin Vazquez, North Campus President.

Each year, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 43,000 die. Despite remarkable advances in treatment and early detection, breast cancer remains one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers among American women, and it remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths. Pink is a color emblematic of breast cancer, a disease most commonly diagnosed in women ages of 15 to 39.

Pink Walk registration is $30. Participants receive a t-shirt and finisher medal. The first 100 MDC students to register pay only $20 with promo code MDCSTUDENT2022.

Supporters of WBHI’s 6th Annual Pink Walk can also participate virtually in a 5K Run and Walk around their neighborhood, park, beach, or other convenient outdoor location. Both the virtual run and walk require registration and a $30 entry fee.

Established in 2005, the Women’s Breast & Heart (WBHI) Initiative is a nonprofit organization based in South Florida with a mission to educate and provide resources to women and college students about the importance of breast and heart health through its disease prevention and early detection initiatives.
